Astur SARKISYAN

In 2007, Astur Sarkisyan obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree, majoring in Kinesiology and Health Science. His passion for the study of human movement and patient-centered care lead him to pursue a post graduate education in the field of physical therapy. In 2010, Astur graduated from the Queen’s University Master of Science in Physical Therapy program.

Once becoming a regulated health care professional, Astur decided to focus his practice on orthopaedic injuries and dysfunction. Clinically, his special interests include pre and post-surgical rehabilitation, sports injuries, chronic age-related degenerative conditions (i.e. osteoarthritis) and jaw (TMJ) dysfunction.

In order to expand his scope of practice, Astur completed numerous professional development courses which enhanced his skill set and knowledge base. He learned advanced manual therapy techniques through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the Manual Therapy Certification program at St. Augustine University. Furthermore, he completed a mini-residency at The Center for Occlusal Studies in West Virginia with Dr. Mariano Rocabado, the world’s pre-eminent authority on TMJ dysfunction as it relates to the craniovertebral junction.

Astur continuously seeks out the most up-to-date literature to ensure evidence-based practice is being upheld. It is his mandate to develop individualized treatment programs, combining manual therapy, dry needling, didactic instruction and corrective exercises with the intent to fulfill each patient’s personal therapeutic goals.

During his leisure time, Astur enjoys cooking food from around the globe which is inspired by his extensive travels. He is committed to achieving lifelong wellness by exercising on a regular basis with a particular focus on weight training. He is a firm believer that movement is medicine!
